Snippet Deletion

At Smipple we respect that each user owns their own data and can do with it as they choose. So today, we released a feature to allow users to delete their snippets. You can delete a snippet that you have created by clicking on the new delete link above the snippets code.

Be careful though! Snippet deletion is final and cannot be undone. Once you delete a snippet there is no going back!

We hope you enjoy the comfort of knowing you can do with your data as you choose and look forward to adding new features to allow you to manage your snippets better in the future.

Improved Code Readability, Site Search, and Copy Button

You may have noticed that there have been a few improvements made to Smipple recently. We have added 3 new often requested features that will help you use Smipple even more effectively.
The first improvement is an expanded design. Smipple used to have a fixed width design which didn't allow for optimal viewing of code on large screens so we updated Smipple's design to expand with the browser so that you can view code without scrolling horizontally.

The second improvement is Smipple's snippet search. Smipple's previous search engine was not very optimal and didn't allow you to search very easily, especially in languages other than English. This has improved with Smipple's new Google powered Site Search.

The third improvement is a new copy button on each snippet page which allows you to easily copy code to the clipboard. Click the screenshot below to check it out. This should make it easie r for you to reuse the snippets you find on Smipple. There is also a new copy button for the embedded snippet html code that I mentioned previously.

So I hope you like the new features and let us know if you have any feedback!

Embedding a Snippet in your Blog or Homepage

You can now embed a snippet in your blog or homepage by cutting and pasting a short html snippet into your post.

Just click on the "embed" link in the lower right of the snippet's code block and you will be shown some html that you can copy and paste into your blog post. It's that easy. Try it on one of the snippet pages.

Hope you enjoy the new feature.

Smipple Blog

This is the official blog for Smipple! Since there is a lot yet to be done to improve the service, there is a need to log and let people know about Smipple's progress.

If you don't know what Smipple is then take a look at http://www.smipple.net/. Smipple is a service for saving, organizing and most of all sharing snippets of code with your fellow developers.

Most other snippet services are very open and have features for tagging and searching but Smipple is different because Smipple is a social service. This means that you can follow other users who you think post interesting snippets that you want to read. When you can follow users that you trust to post snippets that are interesting to you, the snippets shown on the site are much easier to use. Currently this is supported in Smipple's dashboard.

Other snippet sites also have a lot of junk. i.e. Snippets that aren't very interesting or don't have anything to to do with your interests. Smipple's defining feature moving forward will be it's ability to allow you see and find the snippets that are interesting to you. The follow feature is just the beginning!

So stay tuned as Smipple progresses. If you have any features or suggestions head over to Smipple's Feedback Forum and let us know about it!
